Viniyoga retains the classical tradition of private sessions in order to cultivate a personal practice suited to individual ability and purpose.

Private sessions are taught in a sunny studio overlooking the garden at the back of my home. Personal practice can be for general well-being, therapeutic applications, spiritual support or some combination.

Private sessions are limited to one or two persons. Two people, however, should have compatible goals for practice. Private sessions can be special for couples.

Each session is complete in itself and usually the practice is sketched out in what I call a "Yoga prescription." Like most practices, however, it can take several sessions to cultivate and become comfortable with. Typically the practice will evolve. Some students only come once and some will come for months. Commitment to personal practice is required for results.

These sessions can be very different, so it is difficult to generalize. Still, they always start with a discussion of your purpose for practice. The tools are breath, movement and, as appropriate, other classic elements. Sometimes I will recommend books to read or students will bring in inspirational passages or meditative themes to weave into their practice.

Students who have studied with me for a while can more quickly move into more advanced practices if they wish. Commonly the practice for experienced students will weave asana, pranayama and purposeful reflection or meditation into a complete practice. These are further adapted for personal physical and energetic purposes. These may be expansive and uplifting or purifying and inward focusing.

For two people, $90 for one session or $300 for four.

For most new students, it is best to plan on several sessions to cultivate and to feel comfortable in a practice. A commitment to personal practice is essential for results. The "pressure" of regular personal sessions can be helpful in encouraging personal practice.

One initial visit is scheduled to see if this is suitable for you. Then, in my experience, twice a week for two weeks or once a week for one month seems to work best. This can be adjusted for many personal situations.

Students are responsible for payment for private sessions missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours notice unless there is an emergency.

For new students, it will save time to download and fill out the personal information sheet in advance. Bring this with you to the first session.
